UCF College of Medicine
The UCF College of Medicine was established in 2006 by the Florida Board of Governors, the Florida Legislature, and Governor of Florida to increase opportunities for medical education in Florida, address the physician shortage, and enhance the economy. The college currently includes the Department of Medical Education and the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences.
The college offers undergraduate and advanced degree programs in biomedical sciences as well as a doctor of medicine (M.D.) program, giving students access to a variety of ways to pursue their career dreams.
The M.D. program enrolled an initial class of 41 students in August 2009 and will soon produce 120 medical graduates each year. The Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences is training over 2,350 undergraduate majors in the biomedical sciences: Biotechnology, Medical Laboratory Sciences, and Molecular Biology and Microbiology. The school also offers master's degrees in Molecular Biology and Microbiology and Biotechnology as well as doctoral degree in Biomedical Science with current graduate enrollment at about 200 master's and doctoral students.
The UCF College of Medicine is a forward-looking medical school with a culture based on partnerships and collaboration. Our medical and biomedical programs capitalize on UCF's existing strengths in biological sciences, modeling and simulation, engineering, optics and photonics, psychology, chemistry, film and digital media, business, and nursing.
The college is an integral part of the growing medical city at Lake Nona. The newly opened Burnett Biomedical Sciences building soon will be joined by the Medical Education building in time for the opening White Coat ceremony on the UCF Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona in August 2010.
